Read the book preface...

Managing a small business is a big commitment and responsibility and is not for everyone. However, it can be very rewarding to own and manage your small business. I have been a small business adviser and running my own small business for over 30 years.

It has been a privilege to advise small business over this period and to be classed as an important part of their team. I have always tried to act in the best interests of my clients and have found that principle very important in having many of my clients for over 20 years. I am passionate about small business world from two perspectives:

  1. assisting clients to achieve their family goals
  2. the art of being a very good adviser for small business.

I have written this book from these two perspectives where relevant:

  • providing advice and guidance to small business owners;
  • providing guidance on how to advise small business owners especially from a financial perspective.

The book has also been written from the awareness we are entering a new “digital” world where “cloud” software packages will now provide analytical data to small business at a level and scale we have never seen before.

Accounting and business adviser industry experts have discussed that the above “AI” age will need accountants to adapt their business practices to this new world. One of the main changes will be to change from focusing on processing financial information to focusing on analyzing and advising small business on how data can improve and sustain their small business.

Our business has focused for the last thirty years on analyzing and charting the key performance indicators for small business, so this book will greatly help accountants and business advisors to adapt to this new world.

Further, the new digital age will mean that small business owners will have direct access to this analyzed data, including the data being presented in easy to read charts. During my years as a business advisor, I have always attempted to educate small business owners on the financial management of their business. This book is written from this perspective. It will allow small business owners to better adapt to the digital age where this information will be more readily available to them.
